Every way to turn a WhatsApp chat with voice notes into a PDF, compared
WhatsApp has no print button, and the voice notes are the hard part: they are audio files, not text. Here is what each way of getting a readable PDF does with them, and when it is the right choice. This page is written by NoCutoff, which makes one of the options: upload the export, read the first part free, and pay $5 once for the whole chat.
- WhatsApp exports a chat as a text file plus its media files; voice notes stay audio
- Screenshots and the plain export show a voice note only as a play button or a file name
- A chat assistant reads pasted text well but usually cannot open the voice notes in the export
- NoCutoff transcribes every voice note where it was sent: up to 10,000 messages for $5, once

The options side by side
What happens to the voice notes and to a long chat, and when each way is the sensible choice.
| Way | Voice notes and long chats | Sensible when |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshots saved as a PDF | Voice notes appear as play buttons; a long chat means hundreds of images | You need a handful of messages and no voice notes |
| WhatsApp export without media | Every typed message with its date and time; the voice notes are left out | The chat is text only and a plain text file is enough |
| WhatsApp export with media, played on a computer | All the audio files are there, but you listen to each note and type it yourself | There are only a few short voice notes |
| A chat assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini | Reads pasted text well; usually cannot open the voice notes in the export and tends to summarize or stop on a long chat | You want a summary of, or answers about, a short chat |
| A freelance transcriber | A person listens to every note; price and delivery time are quoted per job, and a stranger reads your private chat | Every word must be checked by a person, or you need a certified translation |
| Phone forensic software | Extracts chats from the phone itself; built and licensed for investigators | A court or police case needs a forensic extraction of the device |
| NoCutoff WhatsApp Chat to PDF | Transcribes every voice note where it was sent and keeps the whole chat in order, up to 10,000 messages for $5 | You want a complete, readable PDF of the chat today, voice notes included |
Why the voice notes are the hard part
When you export a chat with media, WhatsApp writes the typed messages into a text file and puts each voice note next to it as a separate audio file, usually .opus. In the text file a voice note is only a line such as "<attached: 00000012-AUDIO-2026-03-02.opus>". Anything that reads only the text, whether a printer, a PDF converter or a chat window, sees that line and nothing of what was said.
Recent versions of WhatsApp can show a written transcript of a single voice note on your own phone, in a limited set of languages. They appear on screen one note at a time and do not turn the chat into a document.
Choosing between them
- For a few messages without voice notes, screenshots are fine
- For a summary or advice about a short chat, a chat assistant is quick, as long as you do not need every message
- For a record with every voice note written out, use a transcriber or a tool that transcribes each note in place
- For a criminal case or a disputed phone, ask your lawyer about a forensic extraction
What NoCutoff does, and what it does not
It reads the export from iPhone or Android, transcribes each voice note with an AI speech model in the language spoken, and prints one PDF with every message numbered, dated and in order, photos in place and a SHA-256 fingerprint of your export on the cover. In our own test, a 3,000-message export with 52 voice notes and 28 photos became a 199-page PDF in about two minutes.
It is not a certified transcript or translation, and a speech model can mishear noisy or overlapping speech; unclear words are marked [inaudible]. If every word must be guaranteed by a person, a human transcriber is the better choice.
How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the WhatsApp Chat to PDF page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.

Questions and answers
What is the best way to turn a WhatsApp chat with voice notes into a PDF?
If you need every voice note written out in a long chat, use a tool that reads the export and transcribes each note in place. On NoCutoff the first part is free and the whole chat is $5, paid once. For a few messages, screenshots are enough.
Can ChatGPT turn a WhatsApp chat with voice notes into a PDF?
It can read a short chat you paste in and summarize it. It usually cannot listen to the voice notes inside the export, and on a long chat it tends to summarize or stop partway, so the result is not a complete record.
Should I hire a freelancer to transcribe WhatsApp voice notes?
A person is the right choice when every word must be checked by a human or you need a certified translation. Prices and delivery times are set per job, and the transcriber reads your private conversation. For a readable record of the whole chat an automatic tool is faster, and on NoCutoff you see the first part free before paying.
Does WhatsApp have a print or PDF option?
No. WhatsApp can export a chat as a text file with its media, which you then have to turn into a document yourself.
Are the voice notes in the PDF word for word?
Yes. Each note is written word for word in the language spoken, at the place it was sent, with its length. A translation can be printed under each message.
