Urdu script, not Roman Urdu

Most people type Urdu in Roman letters, but a transcript of a recording is written in Urdu script, which is the exact record of what was said. Roman Urdu output is not offered. English words, very common in Pakistani speech, stay in English letters inside the Urdu text.

On screen and in the downloads the text is standard Unicode Urdu, so it can be searched, copied into a document and corrected like any other text.

Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi in one recording

Spoken Urdu and Hindi are close, and a speaker can sound like either. The spoken language setting chooses the script, so pick Urdu for Urdu script. When speakers move into Punjabi or Saraiki, those stretches are written as heard; choose Urdu as the main language and check them in the free first part. Pashto is not in the language list.

Reading direction in the files

Every paragraph begins with a timestamp in Western digits, such as [1:20:44]. In the PDF, paragraphs that begin in Urdu are set right to left. The Word file keeps the Urdu text but is laid out left to right; switch the paragraph direction in Word if you want it right-aligned.

Questions and answers

Can I get Roman Urdu?

No. Urdu speech is written in Urdu script. The English translation under each paragraph is for readers who do not read Urdu script.

My recording is half Punjabi. Will it work?

Choose Urdu if most of it is Urdu, or Punjabi if most of it is Punjabi. Each part is written as spoken; check the free first part to see how the mix comes out.

What does a long bayan cost?

One payment of $5 covers any recording up to 6 hours. Unlimited, $19 a week, covers recordings of up to 12 hours; cancel any time.

Who can see my recording?

Only you. It is sent to an AI model provider to be transcribed and is not used to train models. Jobs started without an account are deleted after 7 days, and you can delete a job at any time.
