Long audio & video to text

Transcribe a long recording, every minute of it

Upload an audio or video file of up to 6 hours and get the whole transcript with timestamps, written in the language spoken, with an optional translation under every paragraph. The first part is free, with no sign-up. The whole recording costs $5: one payment, no subscription. A chatbot caps audio uploads at a few minutes and shortens long recordings; this tool splits the recording into parts, transcribes each one in full and puts them back together in order.

What you get back

A complete, editable transcript of the recording in paragraphs, each starting with its time from the start of the file, so you can jump back to any moment in the audio.

  • The whole recording written out word for word, never summarised.
  • A timestamp such as [1:12:05] at the start of every paragraph.
  • Speaker changes marked when they are clear; names only when they are said in the recording.
  • Unclear words marked [inaudible], never guessed.
  • If you choose a translation, it appears under each paragraph; the original always comes first.
  • Several files (for example parts of one lecture) in one job, in name order, each with its own heading.
  • TXT and Word downloads, including any edits you made on screen.

Doing it in a chatbot, and with this tool

Chat assistants can handle a short, clear clip. A long recording is a different job: it has to be heard in full, written in full and kept in order.

What you need A chatbot This tool
A two-hour lecture or hearing Upload limits of a few minutes, or a shortened summary Up to 6 hours per job, transcribed in full

Why long recordings break in a chat window

Chat assistants that accept audio set limits on how long a file can be, and a reply in a chat has a practical size limit too. A two-hour recording holds tens of thousands of words; asked for all of them, an assistant shortens, summarises or stops partway.

This tool never asks one model call to do the whole recording. It cuts the file into parts of up to ten minutes, transcribes each part completely with the same instructions, shifts each timestamp by where the part starts, and joins the parts in order.

What people transcribe

  • Lectures and seminars, for notes and revision
  • Interviews for research, journalism or a thesis
  • Court hearings, police interviews and tribunal recordings you need in writing
  • Meetings, calls and webinars
  • Sermons, talks and podcasts in Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Persian and other languages

Accuracy and limits

The transcript is made by an AI speech model. It is accurate on clear speech; background noise, people talking over each other and poor microphones cause mistakes, and unclear words are marked [inaudible]. Speaker labels are added when the change of speaker is clear and may not stay consistent across a very long recording. Check anything important against the audio.

Only uploaded files are transcribed, not links. The transcript is not a certified record; for court or immigration use you may need a certified transcriber or translator.

Questions and answers

How do I transcribe a long audio file to text?

Upload the file here (up to 2 GB and 6 hours for one payment), check the free first part, then unlock the whole recording for $5 and download it as TXT or Word. Every paragraph starts with a timestamp.

Can ChatGPT transcribe a two-hour recording?

Not reliably. Chat assistants that accept audio limit how long a file can be, and a long transcript does not fit in one reply, so it gets shortened or cut off. This tool transcribes the recording in parts and joins them in order, so every minute is written out.

Does it work with video files?

Yes. Upload MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM or AVI and the soundtrack is transcribed. Links to videos are not supported; download your own file first.

Which languages?

Speech is written in the language spoken, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Persian, Bengali, Indonesian, Turkish and many more, and mixed speech. You can also add a translation into one of 38 languages.

Are there timestamps and speaker labels?

Every paragraph starts with its time from the start of the recording. Speaker changes are marked as Speaker 1, Speaker 2 when they are clear; names appear only if they are said in the recording.

How much does it cost?

The first part is free without an account. The whole recording is $5, paid once, for up to 6 hours. Unlimited costs $29 a month or $180 a year and covers every tool, with recordings up to 20 hours per job.

Is my recording private?

Only you can open your job. The audio is sent to an AI model provider only to transcribe it, through routes that do not use your data for training. Jobs uploaded without an account are deleted after 7 days, and you can delete a job and its files yourself at any time.
