Russian, Ukrainian and recordings that mix them

Many conversations move between Russian and Ukrainian, or use a mix of both. Each part is written in its own language, in Cyrillic. Choose Russian as the spoken language when most of the recording is Russian, and Ukrainian when most of it is Ukrainian; the setting guides the transcription but does not force every word into one language.

Belarusian and Kazakh are not in the language list. Russian speech from Kazakhstan, Central Asia or the Caucasus is written as Russian; local words may be written as heard or marked [inaudible].

Transliteration and translation

The transcript is in Cyrillic only; a Latin transliteration is not offered. For readers who do not read Russian, choose English under "Also translate": the English appears under each Russian paragraph, so both can be checked side by side.

Long Russian recordings people bring

  • University lectures and seminars
  • Interviews for research, journalism or a book
  • Meetings and calls that need a written record, with English for colleagues
  • Recordings for a lawyer or immigration case abroad

Questions and answers

Can I get the transcript in Latin letters?

No. Russian is written in Cyrillic. Add an English translation if the reader does not read Cyrillic.

Does it work for Ukrainian recordings?

Yes. Choose Ukrainian as the spoken language for a mainly Ukrainian recording; Russian passages in it are written in Russian.

What does a 3-hour recording cost?

$5, paid once, for any recording up to 6 hours. Unlimited, $19 a week, covers recordings of up to 12 hours; cancel any time.

Is there a Russian sample?

Not yet. The first part of your own recording is transcribed for free, without an account, so you can judge the result on your file before paying.
