Gmail Takeout MBOX to PDF: a whole label as one dated record

Google Takeout gives you your Gmail as an MBOX file that almost nothing opens. Upload it here and get one PDF with every email in date order, sender, recipients and date exactly as in the headers, the full text, and a list of attachments. The first emails are free; the whole mailbox is $5, paid once.

Turn an email export into a PDF

Leave it empty to include every email in the file.

Each translation is printed under the original email, so both stay on the record.

No sign-up. The first emails are free. The whole mailbox $5, one payment.

By continuing you agree to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

How to get the MBOX file from Gmail

  • Go to takeout.google.com and click "Deselect all"
  • Tick Mail, then "All Mail data included" to pick only the labels you need
  • Create the export; Google emails you a download link when it is ready
  • Download the .zip and upload it here as it is, or the .mbox file inside it

Why one label is usually the right size

A whole Gmail account can hold tens of thousands of emails, most of them newsletters. For a dispute, a tenancy, a job or an estate, the useful emails are usually under one label or with one person. Put them under a label in Gmail first, export that label, and the PDF is the conversation that matters, in order, from the first email to the last.

If you cannot label them, export everything and use the "Only emails from or to" filter here with the person's email address or name.

What a chat assistant does with an MBOX

An MBOX file is one long text file with every email and its attachments encoded inside it; a mailbox export is easily hundreds of megabytes. A chat assistant cannot take a file that size, and given a long thread it tends to summarise. The tool parses the file, sorts by the date in each email's header and copies every email word for word.

How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the Email to PDF page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.

Questions and answers

Does it work with Outlook or Apple Mail?

Yes. Save the emails as .eml files (or a .zip of them) from Outlook, or upload the .emlx files from Apple Mail.

Are the attachments included in the PDF?

Each attachment is listed under its email by name, type and size. The attachment files themselves are not printed into the PDF.

Are dates converted to my time zone?

No. Each date is printed exactly as it appears in the email header, with its original time zone offset.

How large can the export be?

Files up to 2 GB. One payment of $5 covers up to 5,000 emails; Unlimited covers up to 25,000.
