Why a chatbot struggles with a Persian WhatsApp chat
A WhatsApp export is a ZIP file: a text file of the typed messages plus one audio file for every voice note. A chat assistant can read typed text you paste in, but it cannot open the voice notes inside the export, and a chat between family in Iran and relatives abroad can hold hundreds of them.
Persian chats are often written in two ways. Many people type in Finglish, Persian in English letters, because it is quicker on a phone, while the voice notes are spoken Persian, sometimes with English words or words from the language of the country the speaker lives in. The tool keeps typed messages exactly as they were typed and writes each voice note in the language spoken.
Persian and Dari
Dari, the Persian spoken in Afghanistan, is written in the same script, and voice notes in Dari are written out in it. The PDF shows the language detected for each note. The first part of the chat is free, so look at a few notes there before you pay.
What people bring
- Voice notes from parents and grandparents, kept as text the next generation can read
- Immigration, asylum or family reunion cases where an adviser needs the chat in English
- Business agreed by voice with a supplier or partner
- Property and inheritance matters handled by a lawyer
How to export the chat from your phone
- Open the chat in WhatsApp, tap the name at the top, then Export chat
- Choose to include media, so the voice notes are inside the export
- Save the ZIP (iPhone) or the text file and media (Android) and upload it here
- English is already chosen under "Also translate"; change it or switch it off if you prefer

Questions and answers
Can it transcribe Persian voice notes that mix in English?
Yes. Mixed speech is written as spoken: the Persian parts in Persian script and the English parts in English. Nothing is converted into one language unless you ask for a translation.
Can I get the Persian in Finglish instead?
Not at the moment. Voice notes are written in Persian script, which is the most exact record. The English translation under each message is there for readers who do not read Persian script.
Can it translate into German or another language instead of English?
Yes. Choose any of the languages in the list under "Also translate" before you upload, and the translation is printed under each message in that language.
How much does it cost for a long chat?
The first part of the chat is free without an account. The whole chat, up to 10,000 messages with all its voice notes, is $5, paid once. Unlimited covers chats of up to 30,000 messages. A chat of up to 150 messages, with up to 5 minutes of voice messages, is free in full, downloads included.
