Wawancara for a skripsi or thesis

Research interviews have to be transcribed word for word before they can be coded. Upload the recording and you get every word, a timestamp at the start of each paragraph and a new paragraph at each clear change of speaker. Rename "Speaker 1" and "Speaker 2" to interviewer and informant on screen, then download Word for your appendix.

Bahasa gaul, English and regional languages

Everyday Indonesian is informal: "gue", "nggak", "udah". The tool is instructed to write what was said rather than correct it into formal Indonesian. English words, very common in Jakarta speech, stay in English.

Javanese, Sundanese and Betawi are not in the language list. Recordings that switch into them are written as heard, but those passages are more likely to contain mistakes; look at the free first part. Choose Malay instead of Indonesian for a recording from Malaysia or Brunei.

Long Indonesian recordings people bring

  • Interviews and focus groups for a skripsi, tesis or disertasi
  • Webinars, online classes and seminars
  • Company meetings that need minutes
  • Pengajian and talks recorded at the mosque or church

How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the Long Audio & Video to Text page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.

Questions and answers

Does it keep informal Indonesian?

Yes. The tool is instructed to write exactly what is said, so informal words are kept rather than corrected.

Can it translate an Indonesian interview into English?

Yes. Choose English under "Also translate" before you upload, or add the translation after the transcript is finished.

How much is a 2-hour webinar?

$5 for the whole recording, up to 6 hours. A recording of up to 15 minutes is free in full. Unlimited, $19 a week, suits several long recordings in one week; cancel any time.

Is there an Indonesian sample?

Not yet. The first part of your own recording is transcribed for free, without an account, so you can check it on your own file.
