Russian Telegram voice messages to text, for the whole chat
Upload the export of a Telegram chat and get one PDF in which every Russian voice message is written out where it was sent, word for word in Cyrillic, with an English translation underneath. Why a Russian Telegram chat is hard to hand over
In many Telegram chats the important part is spoken: a landlord explains the deposit in a voice message, a relative records a minute-long update, a supplier confirms a price by voice. When the chat has to be read by someone else, a lawyer, an employer or a family member who does not speak Russian, those voice messages are exactly what is missing from a screenshot or a copied text.
A Telegram Desktop export keeps each voice message as an .ogg file in a voice_messages folder, linked from the chat file. A chat assistant cannot open those files from a pasted chat, and on a long conversation it summarises instead of copying. This tool transcribes every voice message on its own and puts the text where it was sent.
Russian, Ukrainian and mixed speech
Many speakers switch between Russian and Ukrainian, or use a mixed form, in the same conversation and sometimes in the same sentence. The transcript keeps each part in the language it was spoken in; nothing is converted into one language unless you ask for a translation. The detected language of each voice message is printed next to it.
If you choose English, the translation sits under the original in a separate block, so a reader can always see what was actually said. Typed messages are copied exactly as typed, including transliterated Russian written in Latin letters.
How to export the chat
- Install Telegram Desktop on a computer and log in with your number; the phone apps cannot export chats
- Open the chat, click ⋮ → Export chat history
- Tick Voice messages, Video messages and Photos; choose JSON (HTML also works)
- Zip the ChatExport folder it creates, upload it here and choose English under "Also translate"

Can it transcribe Ukrainian voice messages too?
Yes. Each voice message is written in the language it is spoken in, Ukrainian in Ukrainian, Russian in Russian, and mixed speech as spoken. The translation can go into English or any other language in the list.
Will the transcript be in Cyrillic or Latin letters?
Cyrillic, as spoken. The English translation under each message is there for readers who do not read Cyrillic.
How much does it cost for a long chat?
The first part of the chat is free without an account. The whole chat, up to 10,000 messages with all its voice messages, is $5, paid once. Unlimited covers chats up to 30,000 messages.
Can I do this from my phone?
The Telegram phone apps cannot export chat history, so the export has to be made in Telegram Desktop on a computer. Once you have the zipped folder, you can upload it from any device.
