Where long episodes break

Long-form interview shows routinely run past two or three hours. That is exactly where chat assistants tend to fail: audio uploads have a length limit, a transcript of three hours of talk does not fit in one reply, and what comes back is often shortened, summarized, or stops partway without a clear sign that text is missing. Asking it to continue can repeat or skip passages.

Here a three-hour file is cut into eighteen parts of up to ten minutes. Each part gets the same instructions and is written out in full, its timestamps are shifted by where it starts, and the parts are joined in order. Minute 170 gets the same treatment as minute 5.

Keeping speakers straight over three hours

Every paragraph begins with a speaker label. Names are used only when said, and hosts often say a guest’s name at the start and rarely after. Speaker numbers are assigned per ten-minute part, so on a long episode the guest can be "Speaker 2" in one part and "Speaker 1" in another. Read a few paragraphs around each part boundary, then use Find and replace on screen to set names before you download.

What you can do with a full transcript

  • Publish it on the episode page so the conversation is searchable
  • Pull exact quotes with speaker and time for clips and social posts
  • Paste the chapter list into YouTube or your podcast host
  • Upload the SRT as captions for the video version
  • Check what a guest actually said before you issue a correction

File size and format

A three-hour episode is usually well under 2 GB as MP3 or M4A. A high-resolution video file may not be, so export the audio or a lower resolution if needed. You can also paste a public Google Drive, Dropbox or direct link to the file. YouTube links are not accepted here. Mistakes are more likely when guests talk over each other or one microphone is far away, so check names and numbers before you publish.

Questions and answers

Why does ChatGPT stop halfway through my podcast transcript?

A three-hour transcript is far longer than one reply can hold, so it gets cut, shortened or summarized. Assistants that accept audio also cap file length. This tool transcribes in ten-minute parts and joins them, so the whole episode is there.

What does a 3-hour episode cost?

$5, paid once. That covers any episode up to 6 hours, show notes and chapters included. There is no subscription unless you choose Unlimited.

Can I get only the transcript, without show notes?

The show notes come with the transcript at the same price. If you want a plain transcript, the long audio to text tool gives one, also for $5.

What about episodes longer than 6 hours?

Unlimited, $19 a week, covers up to 12 hours per episode and every tool; cancel any time.

Is an unreleased episode kept private?

Yes. Only you can see it. It is sent to an AI model provider only to be processed and is not used to train models, and you can delete the job at any time.
