EPUB book translator

Translate a whole EPUB book and read it in your language

Upload an .epub without DRM, choose a language, and get the whole book back as an EPUB: every chapter translated in reading order, with the table of contents, cover, images, footnote links and styles kept. You can also download a bilingual EPUB with each translated paragraph under the original. The first part is free with no sign-up; a book of up to about 160,000 words is $5 as one payment. A chatbot can translate a chapter you paste in, but a novel tends to stop after a few chapters, names drift, and nothing comes back as an EPUB.

What you get back

You get the same book back in the language you chose, ready for any e-reader that opens EPUB (Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play Books, calibre, and Kindle through Send to Kindle). Before you download, every paragraph is shown on screen next to the original, chapter by chapter, and you can edit any of them.

  • The translated EPUB: the same chapters and files, the book title and table of contents translated, the book language set to the target language.
  • Italics, emphasis, links and footnote marks stay on the right words; images, CSS, fonts and the cover are copied unchanged.
  • A bilingual EPUB: the original paragraph first, its translation right below in a slightly lighter color, for language learners and close reading.
  • A warnings list (CSV) of any paragraph that could not be translated cleanly; it keeps the original text.

Translating a book with a chatbot, and with this tool

Chat assistants translate a page of a novel well, often beautifully. A whole book is a different job: 300 pages, dozens of chapters, the same names hundreds of times, and a file format the reply cannot give back.

Your situation A chatbot This tool
One chapter, pasted in Usually translates it well Translates it and keeps it inside the EPUB
A 90,000-word novel Tends to stop after a few chapters or ask you to continue, again and again Translates every chapter in blocks, up to about 160,000 words in one job
Character names and terms Can drift between chapters in a long session Your glossary, names to keep and the previous paragraphs go with every block
The EPUB file Takes text in, gives text out Gives back an EPUB with chapters, contents, cover and images
Learning a language Side-by-side text you assemble yourself A bilingual EPUB, paragraph by paragraph
A right-to-left language Text without page direction Chapters set right to left and the book set to read right to left

How to translate an EPUB

  1. 1

Upload the .epub and choose a language

Drop an EPUB 2 or EPUB 3 file without DRM. Choose the target language and tone; add names that must not change and a glossary for invented words or terms.

  2. 2

    Read the opening free

The first paragraphs appear on screen next to the original. Edit any of them. No account is needed for this step.

  3. 3

    Unlock and download

Unlock the whole book for $5, then download the translated EPUB, the bilingual EPUB, or both.

Why whole books trip up general AI assistants

A novel of 90,000 words is many times longer than any single reply. An assistant translating it has to be fed piece by piece, and each piece is translated with little memory of the last: a character called "the Warden" in chapter 2 may be "the Guard" in chapter 9. Some assistants also decline long passages of a book or summarize instead of translating.

This tool opens the EPUB, reads the chapters in reading order, and translates every paragraph in blocks of up to 60, each block sent with your glossary, your list of names to keep and the two paragraphs before it. Tags inside a paragraph (italics, links, footnote marks) travel as markers that must come back. The book is then rebuilt from your file: only the text changes.

What people translate

  • Public-domain classics, to read in another language or to publish a new edition
  • Web novels saved as EPUB, for example Chinese or Korean into English
  • Their own manuscripts, to share with readers or agents in another language
  • Bilingual editions for language learners and teachers
  • Manuals and non-fiction books distributed as EPUB

Limits worth knowing

Books with DRM (most store-bought Kindle and Apple Books purchases) cannot be opened; use a DRM-free EPUB. MOBI and AZW3 files need to be converted to EPUB first, for example in calibre. Text inside images, such as a scanned map or a title drawn as a picture, is not translated, and fixed-layout picture books with text in images are not supported.

Translate only books you have the right to translate: your own writing, public-domain works or books you have permission for. One payment covers up to about 160,000 words; Unlimited covers about 320,000 words per job. The result is machine translation; for publication, have a literary translator or editor review it.

Questions and answers

Can ChatGPT translate an entire EPUB book?

It can translate chapters you paste in, one at a time. For a whole book it tends to stop, summarize or drift on names, and it does not give back an EPUB. This tool translates every chapter and returns a complete EPUB, plus a bilingual version.

Do chapters, the table of contents and images stay?

Yes. Chapters stay in the same files and order, the table of contents and book title are translated, and the cover, images, CSS and footnote links are copied unchanged.

How long a book can I translate for $5?

Up to about 160,000 words (1,000,000 characters) in one EPUB of up to 100 MB. Unlimited covers about 320,000 words per job.

What does the bilingual EPUB look like?

Each paragraph appears in the original language, with its translation directly below in a slightly lighter color. Headings are paired the same way. The table of contents stays in the original language.

Will names stay consistent across chapters?

List names and terms under "Never translate" or in the glossary; they are sent with every block of the book. The two paragraphs before each block are also sent as context.

Can I read the result on a Kindle?

Yes. Send the EPUB to your Kindle with Send to Kindle, which accepts EPUB files, or open it in any EPUB reader.

Is it free?

The first part of every book is translated free and shown on screen, with no account. The whole book is $5, paid once.

Is my book private?

Only you can open your job. The text is sent to an AI model provider only to translate it and is not used for training. Jobs uploaded without an account are deleted after 7 days, and you can delete a job at any time.
