Summarize a long PDF report, section by section, from the full text
Upload a long report, inquiry, audit or policy paper as a PDF with selectable text, and get a summary of each chapter or part, in order, with key points and the pages it covers, plus an overview of the whole document, as a Word file. The first part is free without an account; up to about 600 pages is $5.
- Chapters found from headings such as "Chapter", "Part" or "Appendix"; otherwise 15-page parts
- Page ranges on every section so you can check the source
- Figures, names and dates kept as written in the report
- Front matter such as tables of contents noted, not padded out
- Summaries in English or another of 81 languages
When you have to know what a long document says
Public inquiries, audit reports, environmental assessments and strategy papers run to hundreds of pages. A one-paragraph summary from a chatbot is easy to get and hard to trust: it is not clear which sections were read, and a confident sentence may come from the executive summary rather than the evidence chapters.
This tool works through the document part by part. Each chapter or 15-page part goes to the model in full, with the instruction to summarize only that text, keep names, figures and dates as written, and invent nothing. The result lists every part with its page range, so anything important can be checked in the original in seconds.
Who uses it
- Journalists and researchers reading an inquiry report on deadline
- Lawyers and advisers getting an overview of a long disclosure document
- Councillors, board members and trustees preparing for a meeting
- Students working through long policy documents
Limits
The PDF needs selectable text; scanned reports must be converted with Scanned PDF to Word first. Tables and charts are summarized from their text only. Summaries are an aid to reading, not a substitute: check figures and quotations against the report before you rely on them.
How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the Summarize a Whole Book page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.
