Translate a long EPUB into German, names consistent from start to finish
Upload a DRM-free EPUB of up to about 160,000 words and get it back in German as an EPUB, every chapter translated with the names, places and terms you fix in the glossary, and du or Sie as you choose. The first part is free without an account; the whole book is $5, paid once.
- Glossary and "never translate" list sent with every block of the book
- Du (informal) or Sie (formal), or follow the original
- Scene breaks, italics and footnote links kept
- Chapter titles and table of contents translated
- A bilingual EPUB for checking passages
Consistency is the hard part
In a long book the same character, place and invented term appear hundreds of times. Translated in separate sessions, they drift: a nickname translated in one chapter and kept in English in another, a title that changes, Sie in one chapter and du in the next. Readers notice.
Here every block of paragraphs is sent with the same instructions: your glossary of names and terms, the list of words that must never be translated, the tone you chose, and the paragraphs just before the block. Fixing ten or twenty names before you start keeps the book consistent from the first page to the last.
Before you start
- Make the EPUB DRM-free: your own books, public-domain titles or files you have permission to translate
- Write the glossary: one term per line, for example "the Shire = das Auenland"
- Decide on du or Sie for the narration and dialogue
- Check the free first part, then unlock the book
The result
You get the German EPUB with the same chapters, images and table of contents, and a bilingual edition with each German paragraph under the original. Both open in any EPUB reader and can be sent to a Kindle with Send to Kindle. Any paragraph that could not be translated cleanly keeps its original text and is listed in a warnings file, so nothing is silently skipped.
How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the Translate EPUB Book page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.
