Why a thesis is hard to translate with a chatbot

A thesis is long, technical and structured. Pasted into a chat, 150 pages come back in pieces, some summarized, with terms that shift between chapters, and the result is text: footnotes, tables, numbered headings and captions have to be put back by hand. That rebuilding is where the days go.

Here the Word file itself is translated. Each paragraph, heading, table cell, footnote and caption is translated in place, in blocks with your glossary and the paragraphs that come before, and the file is rebuilt from yours: styles, heading numbering, figures, page setup and the table of contents field stay. After downloading, right-click the table of contents and choose Update Field so it shows the English headings with their page numbers.

Terms, citations and quotations

Before you start, put your key technical terms and their accepted English forms in the glossary, and list names of authors, places and institutions that must stay as written. Reference list entries are translated like any other paragraph; if your style guide keeps the original titles of cited works, edit those entries on screen or in the bilingual file. Direct quotations from English sources that you translated into your language are translated back, so compare them with the original source.

Questions and answers

Will it translate a 200-page thesis in one go?

Yes, if it fits the limit of about 300 pages (1,000,000 characters) for $5. Longer theses fit in Unlimited, which covers about 600 pages per job, or in two files.

Is it good enough to submit?

It is a careful machine translation that keeps your structure. For submission or publication, have it read by you, your supervisor or an editor; the bilingual file makes that review faster.

Are equations and figures kept?

Figures, images and equation objects are copied as they are; captions and surrounding text are translated. Text that is part of an image is not translated.

Can I split the thesis into chapter files?

Yes. Upload up to 10 .docx files in one job; each comes back translated with its own name.
