Translate a Word document to Urdu without tables coming out left to right

When a Word file is translated into Urdu, the tables usually come out left to right and lists count from the wrong side. Upload the .docx here and get it back in Urdu with every paragraph and every table set right to left, headings, footnotes and numbering kept. The first part is free without an account; a document of up to about 300 pages is $5.

Why Urdu tables come out backwards

Word stores the direction of each paragraph and each table separately. Most translation routes replace the text and leave those settings alone, so an English table translated into Urdu still starts on the left: the first column, which should be on the right, is on the left, and a reader has to read each row backwards. The same happens with numbered lists and with the order of columns on the page.

Here the direction is set while the document is translated. Each translated paragraph is marked right to left, each table with translated text gets right-to-left column order, and sections are set right to left. Bold, italic and size are copied to Word's settings for right-to-left text, so headings do not shrink when they become Urdu.

Nastaliq or Naskh

Fonts are not changed: Urdu appears in the document's font for right-to-left text, which in most documents is a Naskh-style font. For the Nastaliq look most Urdu readers prefer, select all text in Word and choose a Nastaliq font such as Urdu Typesetting or Jameel Noori Nastaleeq if it is installed. The text and directions stay the same; only the typeface changes.
