Translate ASS subtitles to Spanish without losing styles or tags
Upload an English, Japanese or other .ass or .ssa script and get it back in Spanish, with every style, font, position and override tag where it was. Only the words of the dialogue change. A whole season can go in one job: up to 30 files and 10,000 lines for $5, paid once. The first part is free to read on screen, with no account.
- Spanish written into your own script, not into a newly built file
- One Spanish target, without separate versions for Spain and Latin America
- Italics in {\i1} tags, \N line breaks and \h hard spaces kept
- Bilingual option shows the source line above the Spanish
- $5 once for up to 30 files and 10,000 lines
Spanish takes more room on screen
A Spanish sentence often runs longer than the English or Japanese it comes from. In an SRT file that only means a longer line. In an ASS script it can matter more, because each line is placed by its style margins and sometimes by a \pos tag, and signs are often sized to fit the original words. The model is asked to keep the line breaks of each line, at most two lines of about 42 characters where it can, and your \N breaks are kept, but a long sentence can still spill wider than before.
The wrapping rules in [Script Info] are copied from your file, so the player wraps the Spanish the same way it wrapped the original. After unlocking, scroll through the episode on screen and shorten any line that reads too long; the download uses your edits.
Tú, usted and the tone of a scene
Spanish makes you choose between tú and usted, and between masculine and feminine endings, where English does not. Each block of up to 60 consecutive lines goes to the model together, with the instruction to use the surrounding lines for gender, formality and tone while keeping every line under its own number. A teacher addressed formally in one scene usually stays formal in the next, but across separate episodes the choice can vary, so check a recurring character early.

Questions and answers
Can ChatGPT translate ASS subtitles to Spanish?
Spanish is one of the languages chat assistants translate best, and a short excerpt is usually fine. Pasting a whole script is where it breaks down: the answer tends to stop before the end, and tags inside the braces may be translated or lost, so the file no longer renders the same.
Is it Spanish from Spain or from Latin America?
There is one Spanish target, and the model is asked for Spanish with no region. If your viewers expect local words, change them in the on-screen editor before downloading.
Will the karaoke in the opening be translated?
Not by default: lines with {\k} timing stay as they are, so the highlighted syllables still match the song. Choose "Translate them" and the \k tags are removed and the lyrics translated, each line keeping its start and end time.
How much does it cost?
Reading the first part on screen is free. Every file in the job, up to 30 and 10,000 lines, is $5 together, paid once. If the whole job has 150 lines or fewer, it is free in full, downloads included.
Can I also get an SRT?
Yes. Download the same job as .ass, SRT or VTT. SRT and VTT keep italics, bold, underline and a top position such as {\an8}; other tags are left out.
Are .ssa files supported?
Yes. An .ssa file comes back as .ssa and an .ass file as .ass, each with its own name plus .es.
