Why spoken Danish is hard to transcribe
Danish is known among language learners for the distance between spelling and sound. Consonants soften or vanish, unstressed syllables are swallowed and words run together. The stød, a catch in the voice, is sometimes the only thing separating two words: "hun" (she) and "hund" (dog) differ mainly by it. Someone reading carefully into a microphone is easy to follow; a fast conversation in a busy room is not, for people or for software.
The tool writes Danish in standard spelling, word for word, and marks what it cannot make out as [inaudible] instead of guessing. Clear lectures and interviews with one speaker at a time come out best. Group discussions with crosstalk and background noise leave more gaps, which is why the first part of your own recording is free to read before you pay.
Danish numbers and other things to check
- From 50 upward Danish counts in an old system: halvtreds is 50, tres 60, halvfjerds 70, firs 80, halvfems 90; check every figure that matters
- Danish also says the ones before the tens, as in enogtyve for 21, so read figures in context
- Names of people, streets and companies are written as they sound
- Speaker numbers are assigned per block of about ten minutes; fix them before using Find and replace to put in names
Norwegian, Swedish and dialects
Danish is in the language list; Norwegian and Swedish are not, even though many Scandinavians understand each other across the three. A Swedish or Norwegian speaker in a Danish meeting may be written in their own language, pulled toward Danish spelling or marked [inaudible]. For a recording that is mostly Norwegian or Swedish, leave the spoken language on Auto-detect and judge the free first part before paying. Faroese and Greenlandic are not in the list either.
Within Danish, strong Jutlandic or Bornholm dialect is harder than Copenhagen speech, and dialect words may be written in a more standard form.

Questions and answers
Can ChatGPT transcribe a long Danish interview?
A short, clear clip is often fine. With an hour or more, chat assistants tend to run into audio limits or return a condensed text, and they cannot keep reliable timestamps. This tool transcribes every ten-minute part in full and joins them in order.
Does it handle Norwegian or Swedish?
They are not in the spoken-language list. Leave the setting on Auto-detect for such a recording and check the free first part before you pay.
Can I get an English translation?
Yes. Choose English under "Also translate" and it appears under each Danish paragraph, with the Danish first.
How much is a two-hour recording?
$5, paid once, for anything up to 6 hours. Up to 15 minutes is free in full. Unlimited is $19 a week if you have several long files; cancel any time.
Is my recording private?
Only you can see it. It is sent to an AI model provider just to be transcribed and is not used to train models. Jobs without an account are deleted after 7 days, and you can delete yours at any time.
