Dhaka, Kolkata and the spoken language
Written Bengali and the way people talk are not the same. Educated speech in Dhaka and in Kolkata is close to the standard, but each has its own words and sounds, and village speech moves further away. The tool writes what was said in Bengali script without polishing it into book Bengali, so the transcript of a Dhaka interview reads like Dhaka and a Kolkata adda reads like Kolkata.
Bangla speakers mix in English freely: "actually", "problem", "office". Those words stay in English. A Hindi or Urdu passage is written in its own script.
Sylheti, Chittagonian and other regional speech
Most British Bangladeshi families have roots in Sylhet, and Sylheti is what many of them speak at home. Sylheti is close to Bengali but different enough that Bengali speakers from elsewhere can struggle with it, and it is not in the language list. With Bengali selected, a Sylheti recording may come out partly as standard Bengali, partly wrong, or marked [inaudible]. Chittagonian has the same problem. Run the free first part and look at it carefully before you pay.
Long Bangla recordings people bring
- Waz mahfil and other religious talks that last two or three hours
- University lectures and coaching classes
- Interviews for research, journalism or an immigration case
- Elders in Bangladesh or East London telling their story to grandchildren who read English better
How it works with a long file
A chat assistant may handle a short clear clip, but a two-hour talk tends to get cut off, summarized, or refused for its length. This tool cuts the file into parts of up to ten minutes, writes each one out in full with the same instructions, shifts the timestamps to match the full file and joins the parts. You then edit on screen and download Word, PDF, TXT, SRT or VTT.
The transcript is an AI draft. Noise, loudspeakers at a crowded gathering and several people talking at once cause errors; check names and numbers.
How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the Long Audio & Video to Text page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.
