Netherlands Dutch and Flemish under one setting

There is no separate Flemish option, and you do not need one: choose Dutch for both. A speaker from Antwerp or Ghent who says "ge" and "gij" or talks in Flemish tussentaal keeps those forms in the transcript, and a speaker from Amsterdam keeps "jij" and "jullie". The tool is told not to move speech toward one standard. Diminutives make a quick test when you read the free part: if a Flemish speaker says a word ending in -ke, the transcript is meant to keep it that way rather than switch to -je.

Strong regional speech, such as West Flemish or Limburgish, is harder. Words may be written in a more standard form or marked [inaudible], so judge your own file before paying.

Scriptie interviews, meetings and lectures

Students writing a scriptie need interviews transcribed verbatim before the coding starts, and a one-hour interview turns into many pages. You get those pages with timestamps, a new paragraph at each clear change of speaker and labels you can rename on screen. Dutch workplaces mix in English all the time ("even een call inplannen", "de deadline schuift"); those words stay in English, and a meeting that switches entirely into English for a foreign colleague is written in English for that stretch.

Lectures and webinars work the same way: every minute written out, plus SRT or VTT downloads if you want subtitles for the video. A course recorded in several files can go into one job, in name order.

Afrikaans, Frisian and other near neighbors

Afrikaans grew out of Dutch but is its own language, and it is not in the language list. With Dutch selected, an Afrikaans recording may be pushed toward Dutch spelling; leave the spoken language on Auto-detect and read the free part before you pay. West Frisian, spoken in Friesland, is not in the list either, and Frisian passages in a Dutch meeting may be approximated or marked [inaudible].

Questions and answers

Can ChatGPT transcribe a long Dutch recording?

On a short, clear clip it may do well. On an hour or more, chat assistants tend to refuse the file size or give back a shortened text without reliable timestamps. This tool processes every part of the recording and joins the parts in order.

Is Flemish supported?

Yes. Choose Dutch; Belgian speech is written as spoken. Heavy regional dialect is less reliable, which the free first part will show.

Can I get an English translation of a Dutch interview?

Yes. Choose English under "Also translate" and it appears under each Dutch paragraph. Any language in the list works.

What does a three-hour recording cost?

One payment of $5, for any length up to 6 hours. Unlimited, $19 a week, raises the limit to 12 hours per job; cancel any time.

Is my recording kept private?

Yes. Only you can see it, and it is sent to an AI model provider only for processing, never for training. Without an account, a job is removed after 7 days; you can delete it earlier yourself.
