Make a bilingual EPUB with each paragraph followed by its translation
Upload a DRM-free EPUB, choose the second language, and download a bilingual edition: every paragraph in the original, then its translation directly below in a slightly lighter color, chapter after chapter. The translated-only EPUB comes with it. The first part is free without an account; a book of up to about 160,000 words is $5.
- Paragraph pairs: original first, translation directly below
- Headings paired too; list items and table cells get the translation on the next line
- Translation in a lighter color so the original stays the main text
- Table of contents kept in the original language for easy navigation
- Any of 81 languages, including right-to-left ones
Why paragraph pairs
Language learners read best when the help is close: a full translation at the back of the book or in another app means losing your place. With paragraph pairs, you read a paragraph in the language you are learning and glance down only when you need to. Teachers use the same format for graded reading and for class discussion of a passage.
Each translation is placed right after its original paragraph, with the same kind of tag so it keeps the book's styles, and marked with its own language so e-readers use the right dictionary when you look up a word.
Public-domain books work well
- Pride and Prejudice in English and Spanish
- Russian or French classics with an English translation underneath
- Spanish or German short stories for learners at intermediate level
- Your own stories, to share with a reader of another language
Good to know
A bilingual book is roughly twice as long, and some readers paginate it differently; the chapter structure stays the same. The translation is a machine translation: good for reading support, not a substitute for a published translation. Books with DRM cannot be opened.
How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the Translate EPUB Book page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.
