Every line, on its timing.

The numbers and time codes of your file are kept exactly; only the words change. Right-to-left languages get the marks players need to show punctuation in the right place.

Dari and Farsi are not the same subtitle

Dari and Iranian Persian share a script and most of their grammar, and readers of one usually follow the other. The differences show up exactly where subtitles live: everyday words, forms of address and some spellings. A subtitle written with Tehran vocabulary can feel foreign to viewers from Kabul, Herat or Mazar-i-Sharif, and to Afghan families abroad.

That is why Dari is a separate entry in the target list. When you choose it, the model is instructed to write the Persian of Afghanistan with Afghan vocabulary and spelling, so you should see words such as موتر for car and شفاخانه for hospital where an Iranian subtitle would typically use ماشین and بیمارستان.

Right to left on every screen

Each translated line gets an invisible right-to-left mark at its start and its end. Players that would otherwise put a closing question mark or full stop on the wrong side then show the sentence the way a Dari reader expects. The file is saved as UTF-8 with a byte order mark, which older televisions need to recognize Persian-script text. Any font with Persian letters displays it.

Typical Dari subtitle jobs

  • English or Hindi films for parents and grandparents in Afghan families abroad
  • Orientation and safety videos for resettlement programs
  • Course videos for Afghan students learning online
  • Documentary interviews that will be screened for Afghan communities

Limits worth knowing

This is machine translation. Dari has less training material than Iranian Persian, so some lines may still slip into Iranian phrasing; read the free first part and correct words on screen before downloading. For broadcast or a festival, a fluent reviewer should check the file. If your source is an old subtitle saved in a Windows Arabic-script code page rather than UTF-8, convert it to UTF-8 first, because this tool reads such a file as Western text.

Questions and answers

Can ChatGPT translate subtitles to Dari?

It can manage a short clip, and you can ask it for Dari rather than Farsi. With a feature-length file, chat assistants tend to stop before the end, combine lines or renumber them, so the subtitles stop matching the video.

Should I choose Dari or Persian?

Choose Dari for an Afghan audience and Persian (Farsi) for an Iranian one. Both are in the list of 81 targets.

Can I show English and Dari together?

Yes. With bilingual output the original line sits above the Dari on the same timing, which helps viewers who are learning either language.

Do I need a special font?

No. The tool writes plain Unicode text, and current phones, computers and smart TVs have a font with Persian letters.

What does a two-hour film cost?

A two-hour film is normally one job: $5, paid once, for up to 10,000 lines. You see the first block free before you decide.

How long are my files kept?

Jobs uploaded without an account are deleted after 7 days, and you can delete a job yourself at any time.
