Spoken Tamil is not written Tamil
Tamil has a wide gap between the formal language of books and news and the language people speak. In conversation, endings are shortened and words change shape. The tool is told to write what was said, so colloquial forms stay colloquial in the transcript. A speech delivered in formal Tamil stays formal. That makes the transcript a faithful record; if you need a formal version for print, edit the passages you use.
Tanglish and code-switching
Tamil speakers in Chennai, Bangalore, Singapore or Toronto switch into English constantly, sometimes mid-word with a Tamil ending. English words are kept in Latin letters inside the Tamil text, and whole English sentences are written in English. The transcript is never in Tanglish in the other sense, Tamil typed in Latin letters; Tamil is always written in Tamil script.
Indian and Sri Lankan Tamil
Sri Lankan Tamil, from Jaffna, Batticaloa or the diaspora in Canada and the UK, sounds different from Chennai or Madurai speech and keeps some of its own words. There is one spoken language setting, Tamil, and every variety is written as spoken. Accents the model has heard less often can mean more mistakes, which the free first part will show.

Questions and answers
Can ChatGPT transcribe a three-hour Tamil lecture?
Usually not in full. Chat assistants cap audio length and tend to shorten long transcripts. This tool transcribes the lecture in parts of up to ten minutes and joins them in order with timestamps.
Can I add an English translation?
Yes. Choose English under "Also translate" before uploading, or add it once the transcript is finished. The Tamil stays first.
How much does a long Tamil recording cost?
$5, once, for up to 6 hours. Unlimited is $19 a week, renews weekly, and covers up to 12 hours per job.
Can I get the Tamil in Latin letters?
No. Tamil speech is written in Tamil script only.
