Manuals and reports with numbered steps

User manuals are the documents that suffer most when they are translated as plain text. Step numbers, warnings, images next to steps and tables of specifications all have to be rebuilt. Here, numbering comes from Word itself and is never sent for translation, so step 12 stays step 12, and in Arabic the list numbers appear on the right side of the text. Images and their captions keep their places; only the caption text is translated.

Product names, model numbers and part codes are copied as they are, and you can add names that must never change, such as a brand or a software menu label, under "Never translate". For menu items that have an official Arabic label, add them to the glossary ("Settings = الإعدادات") and they are used every time.

Right to left, all the way through

Every translated paragraph is set right to left, tables with translated text get right-to-left column order, and the page sections are set right to left. Word uses its complex-script settings for Arabic text, so bold, italic and font size are copied to those settings in the text and the styles, and your headings keep their weight and size in Arabic.

Choose "Formal" for official documents and customer letters, or "Like the original" to follow the tone of your text.

Typical Arabic translation jobs

  • Equipment and software manuals for customers in the Gulf, Egypt or North Africa
  • HR policies, employee handbooks and safety procedures
  • Annual reports and grant reports with tables of figures
  • Letters and notices to Arabic-speaking customers or tenants

Questions and answers

Is the Arabic Modern Standard Arabic or a dialect?

Modern Standard Arabic, the written standard used in documents across the Arab world. Dialect terms can be added through the glossary if your readers expect them.

Do numbered lists still work?

Yes. Numbering belongs to Word's list settings and is not touched; in right-to-left paragraphs the numbers appear on the right.

What about text inside diagrams?

Text that is part of a picture is not translated. Text in Word text boxes and table cells is translated. Charts and SmartArt keep their original text.

How much does a 100-page manual cost?

$5, paid once. One payment covers up to about 300 pages (1,000,000 characters).

Can I correct the translation before downloading?

Yes. Each paragraph is shown next to the original; edit any of them and the download uses your edits.
