Pull the action items out of a meeting recording

Upload a meeting recording and get a list of action items, each with the task, the owner if one was named, a due date if one was said, and the time in the recording where it came up. You also get minutes and a full transcript with a speaker label on every paragraph. Up to 15 minutes is free in full; a longer meeting is $5, up to 6 hours.

Turn a meeting recording into minutes

Google Drive or Dropbox share links (set to “anyone with the link”) and direct file links work.

No sign-up. Up to 15 minutes free in full, notes included. Longer: the first part and its notes free, the whole recording with full notes $5, one payment.

By continuing you agree to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

How to get action items from a meeting recording

  1. 1

    Upload the recording

Add the MP4, M4A or MP3 exported from Zoom, Teams, Google Meet or a phone, or paste a public Google Drive or Dropbox link.

  2. 2

    Rename the speakers

Use Find and replace on screen to turn "Speaker 1" and the others into names, so owners read correctly.

  3. 3

    Download the CSV

Pay $5 for the whole meeting, then download the action items CSV and the minutes with the full transcript.

Why "who does what by when" gets lost

A summary says what was discussed. An action item needs three facts tied together: the task, the person and the date. In a long meeting those arrive scattered: someone volunteers, and ten minutes later someone else names a deadline. A chat assistant asked to summarize a long recording tends to compress, and owners and dates are often the first details to blur. Here the full transcript is made first, then the action items are read out of all of it, each with the time so you can listen to the moment it was agreed.

What lands in the action items list

  • A task someone took on during the meeting
  • The owner, filled in only if a person or team was named; otherwise left blank
  • A due date only if one was said, such as "by Friday"; dates are never guessed
  • The time in the recording, such as 34:10, so you can check the exact words
  • Decisions are listed separately and only when clearly agreed; proposals nobody agreed to are left out

Owners and speaker labels

Speakers are labeled "Speaker 1", "Speaker 2" and so on, and named only when a name is said in the meeting, for example "Thanks, Priya". So an owner may show up as "Speaker 3". Rename speakers with Find and replace on screen before you download. On longer meetings, speaker numbers are assigned per ten-minute part, so check that each person kept the same number from start to finish.

Using the results

Open the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets, sort by owner, and paste the rows into your task tracker or a follow-up email. The minutes come as Word, PDF or TXT, with a summary, participants, topics in order with timestamps, decisions and open questions, followed by the full transcript. Because no bot joins the call, it works with any platform and any recording you are allowed to share, including an in-person meeting recorded on a phone.

Questions and answers

Can ChatGPT get action items from my meeting recording?

For a short call it often can. For a long meeting it may not accept the file, and when it summarizes a long transcript, owners and due dates tend to get blurred or dropped.

Do I need a meeting bot or a paid Zoom plan?

No. Nothing joins your call. You upload the recording file afterwards, from any platform or recorder.

What does a one-hour meeting cost?

$5, once, for any meeting up to 6 hours. Up to 15 minutes is free in full. Unlimited, $19 a week, covers every tool and up to 12 hours per recording.

What if nobody named an owner?

The Owner column stays blank for that task. The tool does not guess who should do it.

Is a confidential meeting safe to upload?

The recording is visible only to you, sent to an AI model provider only to be processed and not used to train models. Delete the job when you are done.
