A podcast transcript that says who is talking, line by line

Upload an interview or panel episode and get the full transcript with a speaker label at the start of every paragraph and a timestamp you can link to. Show notes, chapter markers and quotes are written from the same transcript. A recording of up to 15 minutes is free in full; a longer episode, up to 6 hours, is $5 for the whole thing.

Transcribe an episode and write show notes

Google Drive or Dropbox share links (set to “anyone with the link”) and direct file links work.

No sign-up. Up to 15 minutes free in full, notes included. Longer: the first part and its notes free, the whole recording with full notes $5, one payment.

By continuing you agree to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Why speaker labels matter on an interview show

A transcript of a conversation without names is hard to use. A reader cannot tell whether an opinion belongs to the host or the guest, and a producer pulling a clip for social media has to listen again to find out. On this tool every paragraph starts with the voice that is speaking, so the text reads like a script.

The model labels voices as Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on, and uses a real name only when the name is clearly said in the recording, for example when the host introduces the guest. Most shows say both names in the first minute, which helps.

Turning Speaker 1 into your host

Long episodes are transcribed in parts of up to ten minutes, and the numbering is decided inside each part. On a two-hour episode the guest can be Speaker 2 in one part and Speaker 1 in the next. Read the free first part, then use Find and replace on screen: replace "Speaker 1" with the host name, check the next part, and repeat where the numbers swap. The downloads use your edited text.

Show notes are written from the transcript as it was when they were made. After renaming speakers, use the button under the notes to write them again from the edited transcript, so the quotes carry the right names.

What else comes with the transcript

  • An episode description of two short paragraphs, written for listeners
  • Three plain title ideas based on what was actually discussed
  • Chapter markers from 0:00 with real timestamps, as a list you can paste into a YouTube description
  • Key takeaways and the people, books and sites mentioned by name
  • SRT and VTT captions built from the transcript

Getting clean labels from your audio

Upload the final mixed episode, not separate microphone tracks: several files in one job are joined one after another, not mixed. Crosstalk, laughter over speech and remote guests on a weak connection make labels less reliable, and overlapping words may be marked [inaudible]. Intro music without speech is skipped.

How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the Podcast Transcript and Show Notes page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.

Questions and answers

Can ChatGPT label the speakers in my podcast transcript?

On a short clip it often can. A full episode is a different job: chat assistants limit how long an audio file can be, and a long transcript does not fit in one reply, so labels and whole passages get lost. This tool writes the whole episode in parts and labels every paragraph.

Will it know the names of my host and guest?

Only if the names are said in the recording. Otherwise paragraphs are labeled Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and you rename them on screen with Find and replace.

How much is one episode?

$5 for the whole episode, up to 6 hours, paid once. A recording of up to 15 minutes is free in full. Unlimited, $19 a week, covers recordings of up to 12 hours per job and every other tool.

Can I download the transcript without the show notes?

The Word, PDF and TXT files put the show notes first and the full transcript after them. The SRT and VTT captions contain only the transcript.

Who can hear my unreleased episode?

Only you can open the job. The audio is sent to an AI model provider only to transcribe it and is not used to train models. Jobs started without an account are deleted after 7 days, and you can delete a job at any time.
