How to transcribe an Amharic sermon into English

  1. 1

    Upload the recording

Add the audio or video file of the sermon, or paste a public Google Drive or Dropbox link. Amharic and English are already selected.

  2. 2

    Read the free part

Check the Fidel text and the English under it for the first part, especially if the recording includes Ge’ez chant.

  3. 3

    Pay once and download

Pay $5 for the whole recording and download Word, PDF or TXT with the outline first and the full transcript after it.

For churches with two generations

Ethiopian churches in the United States, Canada, Europe and the Middle East preach in Amharic to congregations whose children often read English better than Fidel. A written sermon with English under each paragraph lets parents and children read the same message, lets the church post it on its website or social pages, and gives the preacher a record of past teaching.

Orthodox services and Ge’ez

In an Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo service the liturgy and many hymns are in Ge’ez, the classical liturgical language, while the teaching is usually in Amharic. Ge’ez is not in the language list. Chanted Ge’ez passages may come out as [inaudible], as rough Amharic or with errors, and their English lines will be unreliable. For the clearest result, upload the sermon portion, or check the free part of the full service first.

Evangelical churches usually preach and pray in Amharic throughout, often with worship songs between. Speech comes out better than singing over instruments. For a Tigrinya sermon, choose Tigrinya as the spoken language instead of Amharic.

What the outline holds

  • The title or theme, as the preacher states it
  • Scriptures cited, written as said, such as "Gospel of John, chapter 3"; a reference the preacher did not say is never added
  • A short summary
  • Main points in order, each with its timestamp
  • Applications, calls to action and prayer points given
  • Memorable lines word for word

Honest limits

Amharic speech recognition is less established than for the largest languages. Echo in a large hall, a microphone far from the pulpit and a congregation responding aloud all add mistakes. Names of saints and places, and verse numbers, are worth checking. The English is an AI translation for understanding, not a certified translation, and a verse quoted in English is the AI’s rendering of what was said, not the text of any particular Bible version.

Questions and answers

Can ChatGPT transcribe and translate an Amharic sermon?

It may manage a short clip. An hour-long sermon usually exceeds the audio length limit, and a full transcript with translation does not fit in one reply, so it tends to be summarized or cut off.

What does a 3-hour service cost?

$5, once, because any recording up to 6 hours is one job. A recording of up to 15 minutes is free in full. A church posting every week may prefer Unlimited at $19 a week.

Can I get the Amharic in Latin letters?

No. Amharic is written in Ge’ez script. The English translation is there for readers who do not read Fidel.

Will the English follow a specific Bible translation?

No. Verses are translated from what the preacher said, so compare them with the Bible version your church uses before printing.

Who can see the recording?

Only you. It is sent to an AI model provider only to be processed and is not used to train models. Jobs started without an account are deleted after 7 days.
