Convert an EPUB file into an audiobook, one MP3 per chapter
Upload a DRM-free EPUB and the book is read aloud by an AI narrator in its reading order, with each chapter saved as its own numbered MP3. Listen to the first part on screen before paying; a short EPUB of up to 5,000 characters is free in full. A whole book of up to 600,000 characters costs $5, paid once. Copy-protected ebooks bought from online stores cannot be opened.
- Chapters follow the EPUB reading order, the same order a reader app shows
- Each track title comes from the first heading of its chapter and is spoken at the start
- Short pages without a heading, like a cover, are folded into the next chapter
- Tracks named like "04 The Storm.mp3", tagged with the book name as the album
- DRM-free EPUB only, one file up to 50 MB
How EPUB chapters map to tracks
An EPUB is a bundle of small pages listed in a fixed reading order. Each page in that order usually holds one chapter, and the tool turns it into one track. The track title is the first heading on that page, and the narrator says it once as the opening line, not twice.
Pages the book marks as outside the main reading order are skipped. Very short pages with no heading, such as a cover image page or a two-line dedication, are joined to the chapter that follows, so you do not end up with a stack of five-second tracks before the story starts.
A table of contents page with its own heading is treated like a chapter and read out as a list of titles. If you would rather not hear it, delete that track from the ZIP, or remove the page in an EPUB editor before uploading.
Which EPUB files work
- Public domain books from free ebook libraries, which are usually distributed without copy protection
- Your own book, exported as EPUB from your writing or layout software
- EPUBs that an author or publisher sells DRM-free
- Not ebooks locked to a store app or reading device: they cannot be opened, and the tool does not remove protection
Listening on a phone or in the car
Track numbers and tags let audiobook and music players keep the chapters in order and show their titles. If your player copes better with one long file, download the book as a single MP3 instead. Either way the audio is mono speech at about 22 MB per hour.
Endnotes usually sit on their own pages at the back of an EPUB, so they become a final track instead of interrupting a sentence. Small note markers inside the text may still be read aloud as numbers.
How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the Text to Audiobook page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.

Questions and answers
Can ChatGPT turn an EPUB into an audiobook?
A chat assistant in voice mode can read a pasted passage aloud, which is fine for a page or two. It does not hand back audio files, and a whole novel is far more text than one conversation holds, so you would get fragments rather than a book.
What does a whole EPUB cost?
$5, paid once, for up to 600,000 characters, about 100,000 words. EPUBs of up to 5,000 characters are free in full. Unlimited, at $19 a week, covers up to 250,000 words per job.
Will the table of contents be read aloud?
Only if it is a page in the reading order with its own heading. Then it becomes a short track you can delete. Contents pages kept outside the reading order are skipped.
Can I convert an EPUB I bought?
Only if it was sold without copy protection. Store ebooks with DRM cannot be opened.
What if my EPUB chapters have no headings?
Each page in the reading order still becomes its own track, named "Part 1", "Part 2" and so on.
