Translate an Amazon flat file for a new marketplace, template rows kept
Expanding to amazon.de, .fr or .es means listings in a new language. Upload your inventory flat file, as tab-delimited text or the Excel template, and get it back with item names, descriptions, bullet points and search terms translated. The three template rows at the top, SKUs, prices and every other field stay as they were. The first products are free; the whole file is $5, paid once.
- Translated: item_name, product_description, bullet_point1 to 5, generic_keywords, special features
- The template rows (TemplateType, labels, field names) are recognized and left alone
- .txt, .xlsx and macro-enabled .xlsm templates; macros are kept
- In Excel templates only the Template sheet is translated, not the instructions or valid values
- One payment $5: up to 50,000 cells
A chatbot and this tool on an Amazon template
Chatbots write decent bullet points in another language. The template is the hard part: Amazon reads it by position and rejects a file whose header rows or columns moved.
| Your situation | A chatbot | This tool |
|---|---|---|
| Five bullet points for one product | Translates them well | Translates them too |
| A template with hundreds of SKUs | Has to rewrite the whole sheet; tends to stop or drop columns | Translates the text fields and returns the template as it was |
| The three rows at the top | Often treated as data | Recognized and left alone |
| .xlsm with macros | Cannot return the macros | Changes only the translated cells; macros stay |
How the template is read
An Amazon flat file starts with three rows: a settings row beginning with TemplateType=, a row of labels for people, and the row of field names such as item_sku and item_name. Data starts on the fourth row. The tool finds the field names in the third row and picks item_name, product_description, bullet_point1 to bullet_point5, generic_keywords and special features. SKUs, prices, quantities, colors and sizes are not translated.
Use the template of the target marketplace
Each marketplace has its own category templates and sometimes its own required fields and valid values. Translation changes the text, not the template version. If the target marketplace asks for a different template, copy your rows into it first and translate that file, so the upload matches what the marketplace expects.
Color and size columns are not picked by default, because templates often check them against lists of valid values or use them to group variations. Tick those columns yourself only if the target marketplace expects them in its own language.

Questions and answers
Can ChatGPT translate an Amazon flat file?
It can translate the bullet points you paste. A full template has to come back with every column and header row in place, which a long chat reply tends not to do. This tool translates the text fields in place and keeps the rest of the file.
Which file formats work?
The tab-delimited .txt flat file, and the Excel template as .xlsx or .xlsm. In Excel, only the Template sheet is translated and macros are kept.
Are search terms translated?
Yes, generic_keywords is translated with the other text fields. Check them on the first screen; search terms often work better rewritten than translated.
Can I keep my brand name in English?
Yes. List it under Never translate; it is kept as written and checked in every cell.
What does it cost?
Files of up to 300 cells are free in full. The whole file is $5 once for up to 50,000 cells, or Unlimited at $19 a week.
