Remove duplicate rows in a large Excel file and see what was removed

Upload an .xlsx file and get a clean .xlsx back with duplicate rows removed and the first copy of each kept, plus a CSV listing every removed row and the row it repeated. Near matches, such as the same company written "ACME, Inc." and "acme inc", can count as duplicates. Files of up to 1,000 rows are free in full; bigger files, up to 200,000 rows, are $5, paid once.

No sign-up. Up to 1,000 rows free in full. Longer: the counts and first rows free, the whole file $5, one payment.

Built-in Remove Duplicates, a chatbot, and this tool

Excel's own Remove Duplicates command is quick for exact matches, and a chatbot can explain how to use it. The gaps are near matches and knowing what was removed.

Your situation A chatbot This tool
Exact duplicates in a small sheet Explains the built-in command well Removes them too
"ACME, Inc." and "acme inc" Treated as different unless you build a helper column The same company with near matching on
Cells with invisible spaces Hard to spot Cleaned before comparing
A record of what was removed Not produced A CSV of every removed row and the row it repeated

What the cleaned workbook contains

The result is a new .xlsx with a header row and the cleaned values of the first sheet that has a header and data. It keeps values, not presentation: cell formatting, other sheets and formulas are not carried over, and a formula cell keeps the result it showed. Keep your original workbook if you need its formatting, and use the clean file as data.

Rows beyond your plan's limit are copied to the end unchanged, and the screen tells you how many before you pay. One payment covers up to 200,000 rows; Unlimited covers up to 500,000.

Choosing what counts as a duplicate

Whole rows compares every column. By columns compares only the ones you name, such as Email, or First name, Last name and Company; rows where all of those columns are empty are kept, because two blank emails are not the same person. Near matching applies to whichever columns are compared.

How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the Clean a CSV page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.

Questions and answers

Can I remove duplicate rows from a large Excel file online?

Yes. Upload the .xlsx file, choose how duplicates are matched, and download a clean .xlsx and a list of removed rows. Files of up to 1,000 rows are free in full.

Will my formatting and formulas be kept?

No. The clean file holds values: each formula cell keeps the result it displayed. Keep your original workbook for formatting.

Which sheet is cleaned?

The first sheet that has a header row and data below it.

How many rows fit in one payment?

Up to 200,000 rows for $5. Unlimited, at $19 a week, covers up to 500,000 rows.
