Standardize company names in Excel or CSV, one spelling per company
A CRM export with "ACME, INC.", "Acme Inc" and "acme" for the same customer breaks every count and every merge. Upload the file and get a Clean name column with each company written one way: capitals fixed, legal suffixes such as Inc, LLC, Ltd and GmbH removed. The original column stays as it was, so you can compare. The first rows are free; the whole file, up to 20,000 rows, is $5.
- A new Clean name column; the original names are kept next to it
- Legal suffixes removed and capitalization fixed by default; change the instruction to keep suffixes
- The model is told to write the same company the same way in every row
- Point it at the name column so other columns do not distract it
- Up to 20,000 rows for $5, paid once
How to standardize company names
-
1
Upload and name the column
Drop the CSV or Excel file and type the name column, such as Company, under "Columns to read".
-
2
Adjust the rule if needed
The default removes legal suffixes. If you need "Acme Inc." kept, say so in the instruction. Check the first rows on screen, free.
-
3
Download and sort
Unlock the file for $5, download it and sort or deduplicate on the Clean name column.
What the cleaning does and does not do
Each row is sent with the instruction to write the name in its standard form: fixed capitals and spacing, no trailing punctuation, no legal suffix, and the same company spelled the same way every time. Rows travel in blocks of 40, so names that appear in the same block are compared directly; across blocks, the shared rule keeps the spelling steady.
It does not merge different companies or look anything up. "Apex Ltd" and "Apex Logistics" stay apart unless the row itself makes clear they are the same. Abbreviations the model recognizes with confidence, such as a well-known company written out in full, may be shortened; check the first rows to see how your list is treated.
If you only need duplicates removed
To drop repeated rows where the company differs only in capitals, punctuation or suffix, without any AI, the Clean a CSV tool does that with fixed rules and lists every removed row. This page is for when you want the names themselves rewritten into one form.
How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the AI for Every Row page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.

Questions and answers
Can ChatGPT clean 15,000 company names?
It cleans a pasted batch well, but 15,000 names do not fit in one reply and the spelling it chooses can drift between batches. This tool processes every row with the same instruction and returns your file with a new column.
Are my original names changed?
No. The cleaned names go into a new column at the end; the original column is copied back unchanged.
Can I keep Inc, LLC and Ltd?
Yes. Write your own instruction, for example "fix capitalization, keep the legal suffix written as Inc., LLC or Ltd".
Does it work for people's names too?
Yes. Change the instruction to "write the person's name with normal capitalization" and point it at the name column.
What does it cost?
Files of up to 100 rows are free in full. Bigger files are $5 for up to 20,000 rows, or Unlimited at $19 a week.
