Remove duplicates from a CSV online, including near matches

Upload a CSV and get it back with duplicate rows removed, keeping the first copy of each. Rows that differ only in capital letters, extra spaces or punctuation can count as duplicates too, and a separate list shows every removed row and the row it repeated. Files of up to 1,000 rows are free in full; bigger files, up to 200,000 rows, are $5, paid once.

Remove duplicates

Column names or letters, separated by commas. Rows where these columns are empty are kept.

More options

Empty: columns named like Name, Company, Customer or Vendor. ALL CAPS and all-lowercase names are capitalized; company suffixes are written one way.

No sign-up. Up to 1,000 rows free in full. Longer: the counts and first rows free, the whole file $5, one payment.

By continuing you agree to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

How to remove duplicates from a CSV

  1. 1

    Upload the CSV

Drop the file and keep "Whole rows", or choose the columns that identify a record. Tick near matching if rows may differ in spelling details.

  2. 2

    Check the counts

See how many duplicates and empty rows were found and how the first rows look after cleaning.

  3. 3

    Download

Download the cleaned file and the list of removed rows. Files over 1,000 rows are unlocked for $5 first.

Exact duplicates and near duplicates

Most duplicate removers compare rows character by character. Two rows that differ only by a trailing space, a capital letter or a comma after the company name survive as two records. With near matching on, each row gets a comparison key that ignores capital letters, spacing and punctuation, and, in company columns, legal suffixes such as Inc, LLC, Ltd and GmbH. Rows with the same key are duplicates.

Before comparing, every cell is cleaned: leading and trailing spaces removed, double spaces collapsed, and invisible characters such as non-breaking and zero-width spaces taken out. Those invisible characters are a common reason two rows that look identical on screen are not removed by an exact comparison.

What you can check afterwards

Nothing is removed silently. The removed rows CSV contains each removed row with its original values, its row number and the number of the row it duplicated, so you can look up both and undo any removal you disagree with. Fully empty rows are removed as well and counted on screen.

Questions and answers

Can I remove duplicates from a CSV online for free?

Yes, for files of up to 1,000 rows, downloads included. Bigger files show the counts and the first cleaned rows free; the whole file is $5, paid once.

Which copy of a duplicate is kept?

The first one, where it was. Later copies are removed and listed with the row they duplicated.

Can rows count as duplicates if one has extra spaces or capitals?

Yes, with near matching on. Capital letters, spacing and punctuation are ignored, and so are company suffixes in company columns.

Is my file sent to an AI model?

No. Cleaning runs on our server. Only if you tick the optional AI name fix are the distinct names in the name columns sent to an AI model.

Is my file private?

Only you can open your job. Jobs uploaded without an account are deleted after 7 days, and you can delete any job yourself at any time.
