Translate a Unity localization CSV, I2 Localization and string tables

Export your I2 Localization terms or your Localization package string table as CSV, upload it and get it back with the target language column filled from the English one. Keys, types, descriptions and other language columns stay as they are, and rows that already have a translation in that language are skipped. Import the file back into Unity. The first strings are free; the whole table is $5, paid once.

How to translate a Unity localization table

  1. 1

    Export the table as CSV

In I2 Localization, export the terms to CSV; with the Localization package, export the string table collection to CSV. Add an empty column for the target language if it is not there yet.

  2. 2

Upload and check the first strings

Choose the language. The target column is found and filled from English; the first strings appear on screen.

  3. 3

    Unlock and import

Unlock for $5, download the CSV and import it back into Unity.

How the columns are matched

The header is read first. The column for your target language is matched by its name or its code, so French, French [fr], French(fr), fr and fr-FR all work, and the source is the English column. Only empty cells in the target column are translated; a row that already has a French text is left alone, which is useful after a content update when only new keys need translating.

If the table has no column for the target language, add an empty one with the language name before you upload, or choose the text column on the next screen and download the result with a translated column added beside it.

Placeholders and rich text

Format placeholders such as {0}, {player} or {{count}} are checked in every translation. A string that loses one is asked again and otherwise keeps the English text and is listed, so the game never shows a broken placeholder.

Questions and answers

Can ChatGPT translate a Unity localization CSV?

It translates a few rows well. A long table has to come back with every key and column in place, which a chat reply tends not to manage. This tool fills the language column and keeps everything else as it was.

Are existing translations overwritten?

No. Rows that already have text in the target column are skipped.

Can I translate into several languages?

One language per job. Run the file once per language; each run fills its own column.

How many strings fit in one payment?

Up to 40,000 strings and 2,000,000 characters for $5. Unlimited covers up to 200,000.

Is it free?

Tables of up to 300 strings are free in full. Bigger tables show the first strings free; the whole table is $5, paid once.
