Upload your Shopify products export and get it back with titles, Body (HTML), SEO fields and image alt text in French. The HTML in your descriptions keeps every tag, class and link; only the words between the tags change. Handles, SKUs and prices are never touched. How to translate a Shopify CSV to French

  1. 1

    Export the products

In Shopify, open Products, choose Export and download the CSV for all products.

  2. 2

Upload and check the first products

Drop the file here and choose French. The text fields are picked for you, and the first products appear in French next to the original.

  3. 3

    Unlock and import

Unlock the whole file for $5, download it and import it into your French store.

What happens to the HTML

Shopify descriptions often carry lists, bold text, links and image tags with attributes. Before a description goes to the translator, each tag is swapped for a short numbered marker, so the model never sees a class name or a link it could change. The markers must all come back; the tags are then put back around the French words they belong to.

French usually needs a few more words than English, and word order changes. A bold phrase may move within the sentence; the tags move with it.

Vous or tu

Most French stores use vous; some lifestyle brands use tu. Choose the tone before you upload and it applies to the whole catalog. Product line names and your brand name can be listed under Never translate, so they stay in English where you want them to.

How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the Translate a Product Catalog page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.

Questions and answers

Can ChatGPT translate my Shopify descriptions to French?

Yes for a few products, and the French is often good. On a full export it tends to stop partway, and it can change tags or attributes in the HTML. This tool keeps every tag and returns the whole file.

Will links and images in descriptions still work?

Yes. Tags and their attributes are never sent for translation; they are put back exactly as they were.

Are option values like Red or XL translated?

Not by default, because Shopify matches variants by them. Tick the Option value columns yourself on the next screen if your French store should show translated options.

What does it cost?

Files of up to 300 cells are free in full. Otherwise the whole file is $5 once, up to 50,000 cells, or Unlimited at $19 a week for bigger catalogs.
