How to sync lyrics to a song and save them as an LRC file

Upload the song, paste the lyrics, and each line comes back with the moment it is sung, saved as a standard .lrc file. Put that file next to the song with the same name and players that support synced lyrics show it line by line. One song of up to 6 minutes is free in full; a longer job costs $5, paid once.

Turn lyrics into a synced LRC file

Lines such as [Chorus] are skipped. Write repeats out in full so every sung line gets its own time.

No sign-up. One song of up to 6 minutes is free in full. A whole album: the first part free, every song $5, one payment.

What an LRC file is

LRC is a plain text format for synced lyrics. Each line starts with a timestamp in minutes, seconds and hundredths, followed by the words sung at that moment. The file made here opens with the song title and length, for example [ti:Harbor Lights] and [length:03:41], and then lines such as [00:18.52]Lights along the water.

Players that read LRC usually look for it in the same folder as the song, under the same file name: "Harbor Lights.mp3" next to "Harbor Lights.lrc". Rename the download if your song file is named differently.

Step by step

  • Write the lyrics with one sung line per line, and write every repeated chorus out in full
  • Upload the song as MP3, M4A, FLAC, WAV, OGG or another common format, then paste the lyrics or add the lyrics file
  • Start the job; the language is detected, or you can choose it
  • Read through the timed lines on screen and fix any time that looks off, written as [01:02.35]
  • Download the .lrc and keep it beside the song

How the timing is found

The song is not split into stems. A speech recognition model listens to the full mix, music and all, and notes when it hears each word. Your lyric lines are then matched to those words by code, so lines are not simply spread across the length of the track. Long intros, guitar solos and outros do not push the lyrics after them out of place, because each line is timed by its own words.

Clear lead vocals give the best result. Heavy distortion, screamed vocals, dense harmonies and fast rap are harder, and a few lines may start a little early or late.

Common mistakes

  • A chorus written once with "x2" after it: the second chorus has no line to attach to, so write it out
  • Ad-libs and backing vocals that are not in your lyrics are ignored, which is usually what you want
  • Lyrics in a different language from the singing, such as a translation, cannot be matched to the vocals

Questions and answers

Can ChatGPT make a synced LRC file?

A chat assistant can write lyrics in LRC layout, and if you hand it the times it formats them correctly. It does not hear the song, so times it makes up on its own are guesses that slip off the vocals by the first chorus. This tool takes the times from the recording.

Where do I put the LRC file?

In the same folder as the song, with the same name and the .lrc extension. Players that support synced lyrics then pick it up when the song plays.

Can I upload an LRC I already have?

Yes. Upload it as the lyrics. Its old times are removed, the lines are kept, and new times are found from the song.

Can I fix a line that comes in a little late?

Yes. Change its time on screen in the form [01:02.35] before you download, and the files use your correction.

Does it work for songs not in English?

Yes. The language is detected from the vocals, or you can pick it. Clear singing times best in any language.

How much does it cost to sync lyrics?

One song of up to 6 minutes is free in full, with all downloads. A longer song, or several songs, costs $5 once for up to 6 hours of audio. Unlimited at $19 a week covers up to 12 hours per job.
