Run a ChatGPT-style prompt on every row of a spreadsheet
Write the prompt you would type for one row, name the columns you want back, and upload the file. The prompt runs on every row and the answers land in new columns of the same file, with no API key, no script and nothing to install. The first rows are free so you can tune the prompt; the whole file, up to 20,000 rows, is $5, paid once.
- Your own instruction, up to six named output columns
- Answers come back as JSON per row and are checked before they are written
- No API key, script or spreadsheet add-in
- Missing answers are asked again once, then listed
- Up to 20,000 rows for $5; Unlimited up to 100,000 rows
Ways to run a prompt over a whole sheet
Each of these works; they differ in setup, cost control and what you get back.
| Your situation | A chatbot | This tool |
|---|---|---|
| Trying the prompt on five rows | Quick and good for testing wording | Also free for the first rows |
| Running it on 10,000 rows | Needs many rounds of pasting, or code you run yourself | One upload; every row goes through in blocks of 40 |
| Several answers per row | Mixed into one text you then split | One named column per answer |
| Knowing which rows failed | Hard to tell from a long reply | A warnings CSV with row numbers |
How a prompt becomes columns
The model receives your instruction, the names of your output columns and 40 rows at a time, each row as its cells with the column names. It must return one answer object per row number with exactly your columns. The tool checks that every row and every column is there; a row that is missing is sent again once with a note, and if it is still missing, its cells stay empty and the row is listed.
Because the answer is checked per row rather than read as free text, nothing gets shifted: the answer for row 812 can only land in row 812.
Prompts that work well per row
- Write a 15-word summary of each support ticket, and a Topic column
- Turn each product's bullet points into one plain sentence
- Say whether each job listing allows remote work: yes, no or unclear
- Give each comment a one-word emotion and a reason
- Rewrite each title in sentence case without changing the words
What a per-row prompt cannot do
Each row is judged on its own content, so prompts that compare rows ("rank all products by popularity") or need outside facts ("find each company's website") are not a good fit. Very long cells are shortened to their first 1,000 characters for the model, and a row to 3,000.

Questions and answers
Can ChatGPT run my prompt on every row of a CSV?
It can for a short file. On thousands of rows the reply runs out of room, so you end up pasting in batches or writing code. This tool runs the prompt on every row and adds the answers to your file.
Do I need an OpenAI API key?
No. You pay per file, $5 for up to 20,000 rows, and the model calls are included.
How many output columns can I have?
Up to six. Type their names separated by commas; each answer is checked to contain all of them.
Can I restrict an answer to fixed values?
Yes. With one output column, the allowed values box limits the answer to your list, and anything else is asked again and then left empty.
Is it free to try?
Yes. Files of up to 100 rows are free in full, and the first rows of a bigger file are processed free on screen.
