Translate a Shopify product CSV to German, a 20,000-row export included
Upload the products CSV you exported from Shopify and get the same file back with titles, descriptions, SEO title, SEO description and image alt text in German. Handles, SKUs, prices, option values and the empty variant rows stay exactly as they were, so the file imports the same way. One payment of $5 covers up to 50,000 translated cells, and the first products are free with no sign-up.
- Fields translated: Title, Body (HTML), SEO Title, SEO Description, Image Alt Text
- Choose formal (Sie) or informal (du) address for the whole catalog
- One payment $5: up to 50,000 cells and 4,000,000 characters; empty variant rows do not count
- Unlimited: up to 200,000 cells and 20,000,000 characters in one job
- Brand and product line names you list are kept and checked in every cell
A chatbot and this tool on a German catalog
A chatbot writes good German product copy for a handful of products. A full export is a file that Shopify has to accept back, row for row.
| Your situation | A chatbot | This tool |
|---|---|---|
| Five product descriptions to polish | Writes natural German, often with good style | Translates them too, but the chat is a fine choice here |
| A 20,000-row export | Cannot return a file that long in one reply | Translates it in parts and returns the whole file |
| Sie or du | Can switch between them within one long answer | Uses the tone you choose for every block |
| Handles and SKUs | May rewrite them with the text | Never sent for translation |
Formal or informal German
German stores address customers either as Sie or as du, and mixing the two inside one catalog reads badly. Pick the tone once before you upload: every block of the file is translated with the same form of address. If your brand already uses fixed German terms, such as Warenkorb or Merkliste, add them as glossary lines so every product uses them.
German runs longer
German compound words and grammar usually make text longer than the English original. Titles and SEO titles that just fit in English may be cut off by your theme or by search results in German. After unlocking, sort the downloaded file by title length, or check the first products on screen, and shorten the few that are too long by editing the cell before you download.
Which file to export
For a separate German store, export Products as CSV and translate that file. If one store sells in several languages, export the translations CSV from the Languages settings instead: the tool fills its Translated content column from Default content and leaves rows that already have a translation alone.
How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the Translate a Product Catalog page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.

Questions and answers
Can ChatGPT translate a Shopify CSV to German?
It translates a few products well. A full export has to come back in one reply, so a chatbot tends to stop partway, and nothing stops it from changing handles or HTML. This tool translates only the text fields and rebuilds the file from your original.
Can I translate a 20,000-row export in one job?
Usually yes. Variant rows with no text do not count. One payment covers 50,000 cells and 4,000,000 characters; with long HTML descriptions, Unlimited covers 200,000 cells in one job.
Can I choose Sie or du?
Yes. Choose formal or informal before you upload; the choice applies to every product.
Will Shopify still import the file?
Yes. The header, columns and rows stay the same and every untranslated field is copied byte for byte, so it imports the way it exported.
Is it free?
Files of up to 300 cells are free in full. For bigger files the first products are translated free on screen. The whole file is $5, paid once.
