Sentiment analysis of a CSV file: every row labeled, and why

Upload a CSV of comments, reviews or replies and every row gets a sentiment, positive, negative, neutral or mixed, in a new column, together with the themes it talks about. A summary then shows how sentiment splits within each theme, so you see not only that 30 rows are negative but what they are negative about. The first rows are free; up to 20,000 rows are $5, paid once.

  • Four labels: positive, negative, neutral and mixed, for the row as a whole
  • Each label is checked against the four values before it is written
  • Themes in a second column explain what each row is about
  • The summary splits sentiment by theme and gives example rows
  • Up to 20,000 rows for $5

Ways to score sentiment on a file

Word lists are fast and free; chatbots read meaning well. The question is which holds up on a few thousand real comments.

Your situation A chatbot This tool
A dozen comments Reads tone and sarcasm well Works too
"Great, another broken mug." Usually reads the sarcasm Reads the row the same way, as a model, not a word list
3,000 rows in a CSV Covers what fits in the conversation Labels every row, 40 at a time
Praise and complaint in one row Picks one side or explains both Labels it mixed and codes both themes

Why sentiment alone is not enough

A column of "negative" tells you that something is wrong, not what. The tool therefore codes each row with up to three themes from a list built from your own data, and the summary shows, per theme, how many rows were positive, negative, neutral or mixed. "Customer service" can then be mostly positive while "Delivery" is mostly negative in the same file.

Mixed is a real label here, not a fallback: it is used when a row is clearly both, such as "lovely quality, arrived three weeks late".

What kind of text works

  • Product and app reviews
  • Replies to an NPS or satisfaction survey
  • Support ticket comments and chat transcripts, one per row
  • Social media replies exported to a sheet
  • Rows in several languages, with an optional translation column

Questions and answers

Can ChatGPT do sentiment analysis on a CSV file?

On a short file, yes, and it reads tone well. On thousands of rows it tends to label only part of the file or summarize instead of labeling every row. This tool labels every row and adds the result to your CSV.

Is this a word list or an AI model?

An AI model reads each row, so negation and sarcasm are handled better than by counting positive and negative words. Check a sample before you rely on the figures.

Can I get only the sentiment, without themes?

Use the AI for Every Row tool with the Sentiment task for a single Sentiment column. This page adds themes and a summary on top.

How many rows fit in one payment?

Up to 20,000 rows for $5, or up to 100,000 rows with Unlimited at $19 a week.

Is it free to try?

Files of up to 100 rows are free in full; bigger files show the first rows free on screen, with no account.
