Convert your text or manuscript into an audiobook MP3
Upload your manuscript as a Word file, EPUB, PDF with selectable text or plain text, and an AI narrator reads the whole thing aloud. You get one MP3 per chapter in a ZIP, or one long MP3, plus the text that was read. Texts of up to 5,000 characters are free in full, and the opening of a longer one plays on screen for free. A full manuscript of up to 100,000 words costs $5, paid once.
- Word, EPUB, PDF with a text layer, TXT or Markdown, one file up to 50 MB
- Up to 600,000 characters per payment, roughly 13 hours of listening
- Each chapter becomes its own numbered MP3 with title, album and track tags
- One narrator voice for the whole text; no voice choice and no character voices
- Finished parts play on screen while the rest is still being read
Proof-listening a manuscript
When you read your own draft silently, your eyes fill in what you meant to write. A voice that knows nothing about your intentions reads only what is on the page. A repeated word, a sentence that runs out of breath or a line of dialogue nobody would say out loud tends to stand out the moment you hear it, which is why many writers do a listening pass before a draft goes to an editor or to beta readers.
Upload the manuscript in the format you already write in. If you work in Word, give chapter titles the Heading 1 or Heading 2 style and each one becomes a separate track. The chapter title is spoken at the start of its track, so you always know where you are when you listen in the car or on a walk with a pencil nowhere near.
How your text becomes audio
- The file is split into chapters, then each chapter into parts of about 2,500 characters, cut at a paragraph or sentence break
- Every part is read by an AI text-to-speech model and shows up on screen with its text underneath
- The parts of a chapter are joined into one MP3 without re-encoding them
- Notes you left in square brackets are read like the rest of the text, so search for them before uploading if you do not want to hear them
- A TXT of exactly what was read comes with the audio, handy for marking the passages you want to rewrite
What to expect from the narrator
The voice reads plain prose, dialogue and punctuation in a steady narrator style. It does not perform your characters with different voices, and it may stumble over invented names, unusual abbreviations or figures written as digits. For a fantasy novel full of made-up places, listen to the free opening first; if a name keeps coming out wrong, that is worth knowing before you pass the files on.
The MP3s are mono speech files of about 22 MB per listening hour, so a complete draft fits easily on a phone next to everything else.

Questions and answers
Can ChatGPT read my manuscript aloud as an audiobook?
In voice mode it can read a few paragraphs to you, and for a short passage that works fine. It does not give you an audio file to keep, and a full manuscript is far longer than one chat can handle, so the reading stops or turns into a summary long before the last chapter.
How much does it cost to convert a manuscript?
Texts of up to 5,000 characters are free in full. A longer one costs $5, paid once, for up to 600,000 characters, about 100,000 words. Unlimited, at $19 a week, raises that to 1,500,000 characters per job.
Which file should I upload?
Usually the one you edit in. Word documents with heading styles and EPUB files give clean chapters. A PDF works if you can select its text, but page numbers and running headers may be read too.
Can I send the MP3s to beta readers?
Yes. The files are yours to download and share as you like. Use the tool only for texts you wrote or have the right to turn into audio.
Can I pick a different voice?
Not at the moment. Every job uses the same narrator voice, the one you hear in the free opening.
Is my unpublished manuscript private?
Only you can open your job. The text goes to an AI model provider only to be read aloud and is not used to train models. Jobs started without an account are deleted after 7 days, and you can delete yours at any time.
