WhatsApp voice messages to text, word for word and in order
Upload one WhatsApp voice message or hundreds: the .opus files, a ZIP of them, or a folder. Each one is written out word for word in the language it was spoken, under a heading with the date and time it was sent, oldest first. Voice messages of up to 15 minutes in total are free in full; more cost $5, paid once, for up to 6 hours.
- Works with the .opus files WhatsApp saves, and with .ogg, .m4a and .mp3
- Up to 200 voice messages in one job, sorted by the date in their file names
- Written in the language spoken, with an optional translation under each one
- Word, PDF or TXT document, plus a CSV with one row per message
- Up to 15 minutes free in full, no account needed
WhatsApp's own transcripts, and when they are not enough
Newer versions of WhatsApp can show the text of a voice message on your phone once you turn on Voice message transcripts under Settings, Chats. It works in a limited set of languages, one message at a time, and the text stays inside the app. For a single message in a supported language, that is the quickest way.
This tool is for everything else: many voice messages at once, a language WhatsApp does not transcribe, or text you need to keep, search, print or send to someone. Every message is written out in full, none is summarised, and parts that cannot be heard are marked [inaudible] instead of being guessed.
Getting the voice messages out of WhatsApp
- A whole chat: Export chat with media; the voice messages are inside the .zip
- One message on iPhone: touch and hold it, tap Forward, then the share button, and save it to Files
- On Android: the files are in the WhatsApp Voice Notes folder of your phone storage, under Android/media/com.whatsapp
- Upload the .opus files as they are; there is no need to convert them
How the tool works, what it costs and how your files are handled is on the Voice Memos to Text page; prices for every tool are on the pricing page.

Questions and answers
Do I have to convert .opus to MP3 first?
No. Upload the .opus files exactly as WhatsApp saved them, one by one, as a ZIP or as a folder.
Which languages work?
Most widely spoken languages, including German, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Persian and Turkish, and messages that switch between two languages. Quality is lower for some less common languages, so check the free part first.
Can I get the voice messages together with the written messages?
Yes, with WhatsApp chat to PDF: upload the chat export and every voice message is written out at its place in the conversation, between the written messages.
Are my voice messages private?
Only you can open your job. The audio is sent to an AI model provider only to be transcribed and is not used to train models. Jobs started without an account are deleted after 7 days, and you can delete a job at any time.
